-Next Taiwan- After waiting for so long, the day is finally coming. We are pleased to share the cheerful news that Marriage Equality is going to be realized in Taiwan soon. We are proud to be the first country in Asia that embraces Love, showing diversity, and practicing equality.
-Background- In 2003, Taiwan held the first gay pride parade in the Chinese Community. It encouraged the gay communities in other Chinese communities and also neighboring countries in Asia. (Hong Kong etc.) After we endeavored on this journey a decade ago, the Constitutional Court of Taiwan ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry under the constitution on May 24, 2017 and that the Legislative Yuan has two years to amend the marriage laws to align with the constitution. If this is not done, same-sex couples may have their unions registered as marriages and be treated as such by law. Bills to legalise same-sex marriage are currently pending in the Legislative Yuan. If any of these bills are to pass, Taiwan would become the first region in Asia to allow same-sex marriage
