NBA playoffs record for a 5-game series - Dikembe Mutombo blocks 31 shots in the 1994 first round match-up against the Seattle SuperSonics. I'm sure I don't have to tell you more about the first time in NBA history that a 8th seed defeated the number one seed. What amazes me most about Dikembe's performance is the way he shut down a prime Shawn Kemp. You can see for yourself how many times Kemp is rejected, but what's even more impressive is his mediocre stats - 14.8 points per game while only making 37% of his field goal attempts. I tried to include only actual blocks, so you can't see the whole big picture (it would require an hour long video), however, the impression Dikembe left on Shawn is immeasurable. Kemp simply was scared (7:38 is the one example I included, he made numerous sloppy penetrations like that one) to attack Dikembe's basket. If 31 blocks account for 62 points rejected by Mutombo, the number of points he prevented by either contesting a shot or menacing a Seattle player to attack the basket in the first place is well over a hundred. One of the best defensive performances ever. 1994 Playoffs.
