Right after this final game of the 2009 US Chess Championship, I was able to speak with Nakamura outside the chess club on a beautiful blue clear sky afternoon in St Louis, Mo. If you are in st louis, you must visit the club! On the website you will find video of GM lectures! Nakamura has just moved to St Louis!

The 2009 Champion was in a good mood! I took the moment and asked him a few personal questions and I think I took him by surprised, but he answered me anyway. You have to respect this guy, he is not the type to duck a question.

I discovered Nakamura is American, however his father was born in Japan. I have the feeling his father might think chess is a child's game because I have heard him talk about other professions where a lot of money can be earned.

What other country can claim such fame!? He told me that chess was not that popular in Japan and another game is, a name I can not remember now. I got the feeling from talking with the new American Champ he has eyes on a bigger prize! So, America is proud of our 2 time Champion!!!! No American has won the World Title since Bobby Fisher in 1972.

For the press:
Nakamura states,"This is a title that means so much to me and the U.S. chess community - and I have to thank the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis for putting on such a memorable championship. Winning the second title feels better to me than the first."

Nakamura employed an opening that was frequent in the repertoire of the great champion Bobby Fischer. Friedel was not cautious enough and allowed his Queen to finish trapped on move 21, after which he immediately resigned. (from chessdom.com)

Nakamura states, "I dont completely understand my style, nowadays in certain dynamic positions my attitude is generally: Ill play anything, and to keep it complicated. Outside of my opponent's theory, Im a jack of all trades.

I could never live in Europe, Ill definitely be staying in the US."
Unquote. and the USA is proud of its new chess champion!!!
