By Faith, Noah...Sunday Morning Service, 2-16-14. Noah's obedience to God is can be summed up by one verse in the New Testament and that verse is Hebrews 11:7. "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith". (Hebrews 11:7) It had not rained a drop of water on the earth; yet, Noah believed God when He "warned" him that He was going to send a "flood of waters" upon the whole earth. Noah was moved by his reverential "fear" of God, which means he knew God would do what He had said. Noah's building of the ark condemned those who did not believe God's words to both physical death and the second death—separation from God for all eternity in Hell. Why did they end up being condemned? Did God shut the door before they could make it to the location? No, Noah, "a preacher of righteousness" (2 Peter 2:5), preached for the 120 years it took him to build the ark. The people who were not in the ark drowned as they did not believe God's Words and did not choose to enter. Before the door of the ark was shut; and the sky filled with clouds followed by torrential rain; Noah probably was the object of much scorn and ridicule. It was a different picture when the flood began. Imagine whole families standing on hill tops with their children; and, finally, clinging to the sides of ark when their feet could not touch bottom, pounding on the sides and begging Noah to open the door. He could not open the door because it had been shut by God. (Genesis 7:16) Noah was no different than you or I. The Bible says that he "walked with God" (Genesis 6:9) and "Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he." (Genesis 6:22 and 7:5) We can all "walk with God" and do His will. However, Noah did not become the "heir of righteousness which is by faith" because of his walk or his obedience. He "became the heir of righteousness which is by faith" because he believed God's Word. We can all believe God's Word and receive Christ's righteousness. It's just a matter of making right decisions.
