Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Susan Booth 27th April 2007 speaking in favour of equal age of consent reform. Almost a decade later, on 15th September 2016, the Palaszczuk Labor Government kept its election promise and enacted a truly equal age of consent at 16. The LNP Opposition supported the Bill and only two MPs voted against it (the Katter Party). The Bill was introduced by Health Minister Cameron Dick, with the importance of equal age of consent argued as vital to the health of youth in enabling them to be honest and seek timely effective sexual health care from their GP or other services.
