---- A Brain Power Affirmation ----
I am very smart. I use my brain in very productive ways
On a recent cross-country flight on United Airlines, I saw an amazing documentary called "My Brilliant Brain".
It was the fascinating story about a European man who, through the growing years of his three daughters, taught each of them to become a world-class chess champion.
The summation of this story was the theory that genius can be trained.
The father trained each of his three daughters to literally memorize certain combinations of chess moves. In time, they were able to instantly retrieve many bits of information from their brains and make fast, decisive moves to win their games.
Thus, this week, in my Boaz Power TV studios (otherwise known as my dining room), I brought in a guest host to help me with some brain exercises.
My guest was my 7-year-old neighbor named Dax Powers. After the fact, I realized that, with that last name, I had chosen well when it came to someone to help me demonstrate the power of the brain.
The first exercise that I did with Dax involved him putting his left arm up and holding it straight out with all his strength. He was to think about something he enjoyed, like playing his Nintendo games, and I was going to attempt to push his arm down.
With him thinking about something pleasant, it was very hard to push his arm down.
Next I had him think about something he didn't like, such as doing his homework (can you blame him?). This time, when I tried to push his arm down, it was easier to do so.
Thus, the bottom line of this exercise was to prove that positive thoughts in the brain give us strength and negative thoughts tend to weaken us.
Next I taught Dax my cell phone number by going through a series of numbers. I told him that I was going to call him every morning for the next 5 days at 6:19 and tell him what a nice person he is. I was actually going to talk to him for a little over an hour each day, until 7:23.
Then, each day I was going to do a follow up call at 3 in the afternoon to review what we discussed in the morning. The final set of numbers involved the fact that I'm like James Bond, except I'm an Agent for Change. However, my code number is the same as his - 007.
When Dax reviewed the numbers I gave him - 619,723,3,007, he had memorized my cell phone number. Nice brain power on his part and you can do the same.
We then memorized a series of items his mother might buy at the grocery store. I used a stacking technique. First we saw a bunch of strawberries on the table in front of us. On top of those were two pieces of French Toast, then a box of cereal on top of the toast. Coming out of the top of the cereal box was an orange chicken.
On the chicken's beak was a pop tart and then there was some chicken noodle soup pouring over that. The top of the chicken noodle soup can had some black liquid dripping down which exemplified the coffee his mother wanted at the store. On top of the coffee was a tea pot which meant she was going to buy some tea.
Once Dax had all of those visual mental pictures, one item stacked upon another, he was able to easily verbalize the entire list from memory. Another example of great brain power.
Most of us use only a small percentage of our amazing brain power. Why don't we think about all of this a little more?
Dax has been listening to our new "30 Day Can Do Program for Kids" CD. He told us that he really likes the short daily messages and they make him feel good.
The daily topics include: Being a good student, being a good sport, the value of reading, setting goals, getting things done, confidence, and determination.
This is recommended for children 4 to 12. As a bonus to the CD, you will be e-mailed the "Can Do Workbook", a great e-book supplementary teaching tool to the audio messages.
