Christopher Pastore focuses his research on the environmental history of Narragansett Bay (Rhode Island) from its first European settlement in 1636 through industrialization during the nineteenth century. His goal is to find out to what extent the liminal nature of coasts, and estuaries in particular, blurs legalities and shapes local economies, and how did that in turn lead to environmental change?
