In a two month operation called "Operation Intervention", St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office investigators identified 77 individuals and have arrested 67 for drug related offenses. Charges include doctor shopping and the sale and distribution of controlled substances. In all, 2800 pills and two pounds of marijuana was seized.
In 2009 101 prescription drug deaths occured on the Treasure Coast. As of today 75 people have lost their lives due to prescription pill addiction.
