Hitchcock is a master. He begins with a smartly choreographed pan across the Rear Window set. Its paced perfectly with a neighbor singing her scales. Grace Kelly's soft shadow rises over the last light of a summer's day that rests on Stewart's sleeping face ... Hitchcock adores Kelly and shapes the film to make her look like part of a dream. He wakes us softly with her kiss first then her voice. Stewart and Kelly exchange caring wit. "... Who are you?" (we all want to know). "Lisa" (light one) "Carol" (light two) "Freemont" (light three).
