(Added 6/26/2008)---Leonid Hurwicz, the father of mechanism design, passed away on June 24, 2008, as if to prove his words saying that he got the Nobel Prize because he had lived long enough. I learned much of microeconomics and mechanism design from him in Minnesota. (I actually wanted to read a more recent textbook than Tjalling C. Koopmans's Three Essays on the State of Economic Science that he assigned. In spite of that, I later came back to his courses and enjoyed them.) Goodbye, Leo.
