A slow melancholic song bemoaning the life of a farm labourer in Ireland working for a cruel master. The Rocks of Bawn translate as the White Rocks and probably refer to outcroppings of quartz that stand out white against the earth around them. They look like fairly innocuous stones, but they are really like the tips of icebergs, being just the tops of rock formations peeping out of the surrounding earth. What earth is above them is only thin, so a plough would not be able to get deep enough to do any good.
