This is the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure. This coaster was designed and built by Arrow Dynamics and opened in 1989 and closed in 2010. Green Lantern now sits where GASM used to be and Green Lantern was formerly called Chang and it came from the former Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom park in Louisville, KY. GASM had a length of 3,800ft/1158.24m, a height of 173ft/52.73m with a first drop of 155ft/47.24m and a top speed of 68mph/109.435kph. GASM has 7 inversions with a total ride time of 2 min 20 sec. I've heard some people call it the Great American PAIN Machine and I agree as this ride hasn't aged well AT ALL! This roller coaster was the world's first roller coaster with seven inversions and it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world when it opened. Unfortunately, that glory was short lived as Viper at SFMM took it's crown for being the highest and fastest coaster in the world when it opened one month later. Now the GASM is all but a memory as it gave it's final ride just after closing time on July 18, 2010.

Unfortunately, this coaster marked the beginning of the end for Arrow Dynamics. The Company filed for chapter 11 Bankruptcy in December of 2001. The last coaster they ever built was X The EXtreme at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA. It opened in Jan 2002.
