Brittney Mendez’s ’18 research puts the policies and procedures of law enforcement agencies under rigorous scrutiny as she explores the increasing number of incidents involving police violence and the mentally ill. Together with Professor Hasan Arslan, PhD, they compiled mountains of data to show that outdated police policy and lack of proper training puts mentally ill people at risk while in police custody. The Undergraduate Student-Faculty Research program allows undergraduates and faculty to work together on research projects for a chance to win funding for their work.
