Architects across the country are responding to disaster because when a disaster strikes, one of the first tasks for a community is to determine whether the buildings are a public safety concern and safe for re-occupancy so people can start rebuilding their lives.

Trouble is, the structures that must be examined often greatly outnumber the quantity of trained city inspectors. AIA’s Disaster Assistance Program has an answer: it provides architects, engineers, and building officials with the training to evaluate homes and businesses in the aftermath of a disaster for local and state authorities.
