"Our Forest our future" is the slogan of Vanuatu's Forest Department to raise awareness among the local population about the urgent need to conserve and protect forests on the islands of the South Pacific.

This documentary focuses on Gaua Island, the largest of the Banks Islands in northern Vanuatu with its active volcano Mount Gharat (797 m) and Lake Letes. The Government of Vanuatu and the local island people proposed the establishment of a protected area as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in order to conserve the lake and its surrounding forest ecosystem as well as its endemic plant and animal species. With the assistance of the FAO and the Global Environment Facility they are establishing and managing a network of protected areas and also want to introduce and promote sustainable land and forest management methods.
