"We Are Young", by FUN (featuring Janelle Monáe), is a great twisty song that I instantly fell in love with the first time I heard it on Glee. Luckily we had the chance to analyze this song and its elements in our great Music Appreciation I class, taught by the also great and thought-provoking professor Michael (Mike) Billingsley, at Camden County College (CCC), New Jersey. It is a great song, with an elaborated structure, creative form, vivid groove, powerful beat, changing tempo (verses 1, 2 and pre-chorus have a different tempo compared to the other sections), and rich texture, especially in the bridges, where there are 3 different melodic lines harmoniously sung simultaneously (I had a lot of fun recording these distinct melodic lines for the bridges).

These are the sections that form "We Are Young":

Intro (drums)
Verse 1
Verse 2
Interlude (pre-chorus)
Chorus (twice)
Verse 3 (different melody and tempo in relation to verses 1 and 2)
Chorus (twice)
Bridge 1 (Carry me home... mingled with Nananana)
Bridge 2 (The moon is on my side... mingled with Nananana)
Chorus (twice)
Interlude (repeat pre-chorus).

Therefore, the form is: Intro, A, A, B, C, C, A, C, C, D, E, C, C, B.

Singing this song was very challenging because of the high notes in the chorus, but I had a lot of "fun" recording it, and I hope you enjoy my rendition of "We Are Young". No copyright infringement intended. This is actually my tribute to FUN. (I became a fan) as well as to their official record label Fueled by Ramen. Moreover, I would like to congratulate FUN. and Fueled by Ramen for their first number 1 hit on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lyrics:

"WE ARE YOUNG" (FUN. featuring Janelle Monáe)

Give me a second I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom getting
Higher than the Empire State
My lover is waiting for me
Just across the bar
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses
Asking bout a scar, and

I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies
You know
I'm trying hard to take it back

So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home

CHORUS (2x):
Tonight, we are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Now I know that I'm not
All that you've got
I guess that I
I just thought
Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let's raise a toast
'Cause I found someone to carry me home

REPEAT CHORUS (2x)

Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)

The moon is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home

REPEAT CHORUS (2x)

So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home tonight
