Dear Leikeli47 (Vevo)
Leikeli47 is an enigmatic figure. The NY rapper (pronounced Leh-kay-lee) always sports a ski mask or similar head covering, and has revealed little about the person behind the shrouded persona. This much is known: she transcended an unhappy childhood by finding solace and expression in music. A pair of mixtapes grabbed scads of attention in 2012 with a barrage of incendiary verses and pulverizing beats. She soon signed with RCA Records, and dropped “F**k the Summer Up.” But the masked “communicator,” as she prefers to be called, was just getting warmed up: since, she’s done collabos with AlunaGeorge, Baauer, and Pussy Riot, toured with Santigold, unleashed arresting videos for “2nd Fiddle,” “Miss Me” and “O.M.C.” Her new album, 'Wash & Set,' features the video “M I L K,” a nod to her partnership with Milk Makeup cosmetics. In ‘Dear Leikeli47,’ she explains how weed helps a backyard barbecue, how a little fibbing can help a relationship, and how loaning loot to pals is a big no-no.
