The major boulevards of LA are lined with large trees. In our first year in Los Angeles, I designed and sewed the Emergency Living System for myself and my four-year-old because it takes only a small twist of fate to suddenly become homeless. The ELS was to be our emergency home, keeping us off the street, where we would be vulnerable.

The system converts any large ornamental tree into a safe, private, and luxurious home. It folds into a backpack, and has built-in features like windows, a desk, sleeping bag, and roof.

If ever homeless I'd hoped to retain some sense of privacy, luxury and serenity.
