Moais in Easter Islands, as Direction Sign-Statues
イースターのモアイは、方向指示のための指標像であった
It is written in Wikipedia that the production and transportation of the more than 900 statues are considered remarkable creative and physical feats.
The tallest moai erected, called Paro, was almost 10 metres high and weighed 82 tons; the heaviest erected was a shorter but squatter moai at Ahu Tongariki, weighing 86 tons; and one unfinished sculpture, if completed, would have been approximately 21 metres tall with a weight of about 270 tons.
最大のモアイは、「パロ」と呼ばれているモアイで、高さが１０メートル。８２トンもあります。
背は低いですが、アフ・トンガリキと呼ばれる地域にあるモアイは、８２トンもあります。
さらに未完成のモアイですが、それは高さが、２１メートル、２７０トンもあります。
２７０トン。
そんなモアイを、何のために、だれが、どうやって作ったというのでしょうか。
今日は、その謎について考えてみたいと思います。
