Vanessa Tsehaye’s photojournalist uncle Seyoum Tsehaye and his colleagues were imprisoned in 2001 for demanding democracy in Eritrea. Rather than stay silent, Tsehaye decided to launch an organization, One Day Seyoum, at only 16 years old to tell the story of her uncle. In her talk, she shares how she's promoting democracy, accountability, and freedom of expression by using political campaigns, legal advocacy, and the support of ambassadors to raise awareness about Eritrea's rampant human rights abuses.
