Four years ago, our plucky team of staff, volunteers and workshop students traveled to Pescadero beach to excavate the skeleton of a 30 foot baby gray whale. We believed that these bones could help teach kids in a way that would go far beyond just hearing or reading about whales. Now Gracie travels to schools all across California as a part of our hands-on Whale Week program! This program gives kids in the high-need communities we serve the opportunity to touch, smell and assemble the skeleton -- and to experience science in a way that develops their appreciation of learning and the world we live in.
We are thrilled that Whale Week will be hosted at three of our elementary school partners this spring - and that each visit is funded by the SF Unified School District!!
