What you want to do when you're preparing a strawberry is to get rid of the green top, which is called the strawberry hull. And they have some fancy strawberry hullers that you can use but I just like to use a paring knife. Just take the tip of the knife and just go around the green part and you want to take as little of the berry out as you possibly can. Now if you have a really big strawberry, and it's early in the season, often this area in here will be very woody. So you kind of just have to look at it and see if it looks like it's tender or if it looks like it's tough, and if it's tough get rid of it.
