This poem tells the sad story of an innocent man sent to death row by a judge with a grudge after he was shot in his own store by people who hated his efforts to help a black friend named Andrew James. Tommy Zeigler owned a furniture store in Winter Garden, Florida. On Christmas Eve 1975, his wife and her parents were killed in the store while picking out a present for his father-in-law. When Tommy entered the store later, he was also shot and left for dead.
