As a little girl raised in a guru cult, Eva Mackey Meyrat came to the French Parc Asterix, but saw little of the park and enjoyed none of it because her job was to serve the guru’s grandson. As an adult, she took her own little children to the same park. They enjoyed themselves immensely but couldn’t understand why their mother hadn’t enjoyed herself when she came to the park as a little girl. The children’s questions and “theories” about why their mom’s childhood experience was so different from theirs poignantly illuminates the stark differences between cults and normal life. From this story grew a talk about the unique challenges second generation adult former cult members face when raising their own children. Truth indeed does come from the mouths of babes.
