Upper dentures have improved greatly over the years. This is a standard upper denture, and patients who have worn an upper denture for 20 or 30 years generally are really happy with it, and when they're looking to upgrade they're looking to upgrade the quality and the look and the feel just because teeth have come a long way. Dentures are part of that; they have come a long way for upper denture comfort. You want to have a natural looking smile on a natural looking denture, and sometimes when people smile with their old dentures they're worn down.
One of the bigger advantages to today's dentures is you don't have to have this big natural looking denture that covers your palette because when your palette is covered you lose all of your taste. One of the big things in dentistry that I do with upper dentures is we don't have the palette anymore. We do something a little bit more like this which cuts the palette out. When you have no palette coverage and you're wearing an upper denture all of a sudden you can taste all your food again and benefit from upper denture comfort. If you've been wearing a denture for 20 or 30 years and you miss the taste of a steak you are going to love the way this feels when it's in place.
