Why network? - a quote from Demosthenes
"Small opportunities are often the start of great enterprise",
That's what networking is about, meeting people face to face and having conversations where you will identify new opportunities where your skills, expertise, connections and enthusiasm can help others.
Oh and you will get a return on your investment - scientifically proven!
Where and when will you network?
There are many networking events, breakfast, lunch and dinner - all offer you the opportunity to meet people, but remember that you are there to network, "not net-eat or net-drink"!
Sample events, and then commit to one or two groups where you feel comfortable, and can enjoy meeting people to build great relationships.
Commitment means participating, engaging and helping others on a regular basis.
How to network?
Planning and preparation are key.
What are you going to say? Have you a captivating, memorable story, an anecdote, a testimonial from a delighted customer?
What are you going to ask? - super open questions build great business relationships!
What you can give? - advice, connections, top tips - networking is about abundance - check out Stephen Covey's seven habits.
Think about your mind-set, be passionate, be positive, be helpful, be there (not distracted by your phone or what's going on at the office), think about your dress, your smile, your business cards, your manners, the words that you use - the whole package - 'Brand You'.
Networking is a skill and one that you need to continually develop, practise and learn.
Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the second best way to communicate, said, "Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve the co-operation of many minds - networking in a nutshell!
