This LED mod on the classic 1979 Stern Meteor pinball machine really brightened it up and gave it more 'pop'. This video doesn't really do it justice. Not only are the colors more crisp and clear, it uses less than half the energy! I couldn't find a lot of information about how exactly to perform this mod so I plan to put a video out that will explain it a little more for those that are interested. The lamp driver board was replaced with a new lamp/LED driver board which fixes the flicker issue you see on LEDs that are 'controlled' (not general illumination - aka GI). More details on this is another video. Then all incandescent bulbs were replaced by various colored LEDs. Total cost of the mod was about $260. $100 for the lamp/LED driver board and about $150 for the LEDs (this job took almost 130 LEDs) plus shipping. Get some extra LEDs in case you change your mind on the placement of colors. It took approximately 3 hours to perform over a span of several evenings. Some of that time was spent disassembling parts just to access all the sockets. While I had it apart, I went ahead and replaced several rubbers, fixed minor issues, and had to do some resoldering in places. An amateur can certainly do this mod with some know how.
