A look back on the history and a look forward to the future of the New Tech Narcissists, a now nationally competitive high school robotics team.
Sponsored by SM Engery, Ector County Independent School District, and George H. W. Bush New Tech Odessa High School in Odessa, TX.
Team 4301 first competed in the 2012 season of the United States FIRST Robotics Competition "Rebound Rumble" at the Lone Star Regional in Houston, TX. It was the first official year of the school, known then as New Tech Odessa, and the first year for the team, known then as the New Tech Ninjas. They placed 36th out of 54 teams. Then came another year and another deafening defeat in the 2013 game "Ultimate Ascent." Team 4301 placed 40th out of 41 teams, now competing at the Hub City Regional Competition in Lubbock, TX.
After the season, the New Tech Ninjas would rebrand themselves as the New Tech Narcissists. They received a sizable sponsorship investment from SM Energy, a petroleum and natural gas exploration company operating in West Texas. Team 4301 would then go on to the Hub City Regional match for two more seasons, placing 18th out of 42 teams competing in the "Aerial Assist" 2014 season, and placed 13th out of 44 teams competing in the "Recycle Rush" 2015 season, actually making it to the quarterfinals for the first time.
This film outlines team 4301's experiences of the past FRC seasons as well as the journey they take in the 2016 season, advancing from the Hub City Regional Competition for the first time, to compete at The FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, MO.
