19 tons 43' LOD gaff yawl Germaine built 1882 by Ben Nicholson, entering the Chenal du Four between Ushant and Brest. We're headed South and the wind is ENE force 5 beaufort. We carry the mizzen, mainsail, jib and staysail. The boat reaches 9 knots, we have a blast. Contrary to the f... up weather forecast we had picked up a few hours earlier the wind continued to strengthen and reached force 7 two hours later across the Brest straits, we had to go for shelter under the coast under power with the mizzen only since I don't have a storm jib. I broke a finger taking the jib down, hit by the whipping sheets, and that was the worst damage to boat and crew.
