During the wonderful years I spent at Howard University, singing in the choir, Dr. Warner Lawson and Evelyn D. White led the choir in great musical works. Among them was the lovely choral work by Philip James, "By The Waters Of Babylon". When Mrs. White passed, former members of the Howard Choir came from all over the Nation to sing at a Memorial Service in her honor, singing many of the great choral works they had sung under Dr. Lawson and Mrs. White. This lovely Anthem was among the compositions performed that day. Samuel Bonds, who conducted the choir for the occasion, was able to capture the mood and feeling that Dr. Lawson and Mrs. White would have breathed into the composition. Long live the great legacy of Dr. Lawson & Mrs. Evelyn D. White, and may the great sound of The Howard University Choir ever be preserved! BernardMavritteSings
