Alpharma, a subsidiary of Pfizer, will soon suspend US sales of poultry feed drug roxarsone after a study found inorganic arsenic in the livers of birds given the drug. Pfizer said the level of inorganic arsenic, a carcinogen in humans, was the equivalent of that found in a glass of water. The drug, which promotes growth and pigmentation, is still available in 14 other countries worldwide.
