With every menstrual cycle from her teen years on, Annie experienced heavy menstrual bleeding and intense pain. She bled so much that she became severely anemic, with hemoglobin levels at just 5.9 gm/dl (normal is 12-16 gm/dl). An ultrasound revealed she had uterine fibroids. She consulted several doctors and tried various treatments, but the heavy menstrual periods continued.
So Annie finally turned to Dr. Camran Nezhat, a surgeon specializing in female reproductive disorders. Dr. Nezhat successfully removed all 100 fibroids through laparascopic surgery. Today, Annie is a normal, healthy graduate student pursuing a career in nursing, where she plans to focus on women's health.
