This SP song is one of a series of guruparents phonics songs.
The song introduces the blend by featuring 12 words starting with sp, including some sight words.
To adults, the 'sp' sound blend may appear so obvious as to not need to be taught. While it is no doubt true that children able to 'sound out' words should have no trouble with this sound, the key is speed. By being able to recognize the 'sp' letter pairing and therefore not need to sound it out, a child is reading that little bit faster than they otherwise would. And speed is vital, not least because the sooner a child learns to read at a reasonable pace, the sooner they will be able to read books purely for pleasure -- one of the hallmarks of a good student!
We hope you enjoy the rhythms of the song -- and more importantly we hope your child finds it a lot of fun. The range of alphabet songs for children that we at Guruparents have put together is meant to be enjoyed -- we love reading and we want as many kids to grow up loving it too!
