Sailing out of New York Harbor and into Sandy Hook Bay, wind gusting to 25 knots at Robbins Reef in the Harbor per NOAA and must have been higher out in the Bay. Two reefs and a dropped traveller on the main, and the 100% jib with plenty of twist and we are just able to keep from constantly rounding up while close reaching essentially both ways in the westerly wind. Camera battery died on the way back unfortunately, but shortly after our homeward jibe in the video the seas began to build, short (under4') but steep and some breaking. We practiced heaving-to, which after the usual heavy heel after tacking was very stable and we were sustaining about 50-60 degrees off the wind. Very very bumpy though... later that day Robbins Reef saw a top wind speed of 34 knots, though we were home eating dinner by then...
