In a celebration of Maryland's new Benefit Corporations law and businesses that strengthen community, Old Takoma Business Association hosted the inauguration of Blessed Coffee, the first community-based business developed to create wealth while producing public good. The event took place at the Gazebo in Old Town Takoma on September 16, 2011, featuring traditional Ethiopian music and a coffee ceremony. Those in attendance included mayor Bruce Williams, Governor Martin O'malley, State Senator Jamie Raskin, and the founders of Blessed Coffee Tebabu Assefa and his wife Sara Mussie.
