The Clarkson University chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) recently conducted a Micro RC Fly-in at Potsdam High School. The purpose of the fly-in was to educate the students on the general dynamics of flight and basic fundamental aerodynamics. The students got to fly micro RC aircraft in the school's gym, using a "buddy box" system for safety. The program provided both the general theory of flight along with a hands-on approach to reinforce student engagement and critical thinking. The Clarkson students hope that this pilot outreach effort will spread to other regional high schools to aid in introducing students to both aeronautical engineering and engineering in general.
