The sixth-grade science teachers at McCulloch Intermediate School have implemented a hands-on, team-building method to teach their students about space exploration.

Students divided in teams of four in which one student had a control rocket with the traditional fin configuration and the other three had test rockets. All rockets had the same mass, the same number of fins and the same engines, so the configuration of the fins was the only factor that changed. Students recorded the results to see which rocket had the most successful launch and reached the highest altitude.

This video was created by Cristy Angulo, HPISD communications intern. It is the sixth in a series of videos highlighting innovative instruction.
