This closed entrance is the Symbol of untouchability in Hindu religion. Nandanar who was a person of great devotee of lord Shiva. He was a Paraiah (untouchable by higher caste people of Brahmins in India ) by caste. He Has no right to enter the Natarajar temple, Chidambaram, India. Once he was eager to see the God Nataraja and entered in to the south side entrance of Natarajar Temple. Then he was killed by fire incident made by the Dikshidars (kind of Brahmins) because of breaching control of entering untouchable people in to temple. Then the Dikshidars closed the entrance because of insanity of entrance cause by Nandanar. This entrance is still closed and showing the power of higher caste people in Tamil Nadu, India.
