I was asked to write a song for my high school's Veterans Day Assembly and then perform it! I asked my mom to ask some of her friends to give her personal thoughts and stories about their experiences. I got some amazing stories. Using these I wrote my song. :) This song took about 2 hours to write. It still needed some work when I performed it, but I think it went rather well. This is the biggest crowd that I've performed for yet! I hope that everyone likes it! Thank you so much to all of the veterans. This song is dedicated to you and your families. :)

"He's got one foot out the door
another in her world.
He's about to fight a war,
gonna have to leave a girl.

He's says goodbye with heartache.
A tear falls from her eye.
He says "I will do whatever it takes to keep myself alive.

It's a tough world out there,
but someone's got to fight.
I'm not saying I'm not scared,
but I have to do what's right.

Stay strong for me, my darling.
I can't do this on my own.
As the world around me is falling,
the thought of you will be my rock, my stone.
Red, white, and blue will be on my mind,
but you will be in my heart.
Darling, I will be fine.
Nothing, no nothing, can tear us apart."

She woke up to an empty bed.
The baby girl has started to cry.
"I can't do this alone", she said, "you need a father in your life."

She softly rocked the baby to sleep
as she read a letter from him,
and as she read she began to weep
he says, "life is looking better every day.

It's a tough world out here,
but I'm doing alright.
There's no need to fear
things are looking bright.

The dusty plains kick up quite a storm,
but the soldiers rush right through it.
Now all they can think of is getting home
to see their children who grew up in pictures.

Every fight and burning light
every thunderclap of war.
Is for freedom. family, and doing what's right.
Isn't this what we're here for?

The best day of his life
was coming home.
Embracing his daughter and his wife,
never again alone.
And as his family held him tight,
and the tears streamed down his face.
He thought "I've fought a good fight."
He had won the race.

Thank you so much for watching!! :D
