On April 22, 2009, Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT, 中國國民黨) legislator Lee Ching-hua (李慶華) repeatedly insulted female Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) legislator Chiu Yi-ying (邱議營) by saying that she had "no family upbringing" and by calling her a "pōfù" (潑婦, shrew) -- a serious insult to a woman -- at least 11 times in the legislature. As a direct result of these provocations, Chiu slapped Lee in the face, and Lee repeatedly used this pitiful excuse to call the DPP a "party of violence" (暴力政黨).

There is much irony in this and in many other KMT statements, and it should be shouted from the top of Jade Mountain (玉山).

Later that day, Lee held a press conference with some of his colleagues from the KMT. One of those was Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱).

During that press conference, Hung -- who can be seen here in video from September 23, 2006 hitting two police officers trying to block her way as she protested then-president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) -- said:
- - -

My translation:
That's the DPP for ya. "Violence" is in their DNA.
- - -

Note the racist tone of that. It's "in their DNA." Hung's pronunciation of the "D" in "DNA" also sounds to me like the Taiwanese (台語) word for "pig."

I guess they couldn't get anyone better, but your irony meter will go off the scale if you know KMT history -- or merely if you watch this video.

The KMT is responsible for two "White Terrors" -- one in China, which killed millions, and another in Taiwan which most likely killed tens of thousands. The White Terror in Taiwan took place under KMT rule during four decades of martial law -- the longest period of martial law in modern history. The KMT is responsible for the 228 Massacre of 1947, the Kaohsiung Incident of 1979, the Lin family murders of 1980 (which occurred while their police supposedly had Lin I-hsiung's home under 24-hour surveillance after jailing Lin), rioting, crashing campaign trucks into courthouse gates, and breaking into Central Election Commission headquarters when they lose elections, and so much more bloody violence.

The "party of violence" is the KMT!
