Interview with Luis E. Fernandez regarding Renewable Energy for rural development and the reduction of energy poverty and deforestation in Angola.
Currently 70% of Angola has no access to electricity, and relies on firewood and locally made charcoal. This is resulting in extremely high rates of deforestation and degradation in areas around rural towns and villages.
This also results in a disproportionate negative health effect on women and girls as they are traditionally tasked to walk long distances to gather firewood, and tend to and breath in the smoke from the fires used for cooking and other household chores.
