Excerpt from the work-in-progress staged reading of "I:Witness," the new, original work drawn from our rich archive of Chicano Legacy Project plays written by About…Productionsʼ Young Theaterworks students at Monterey Continuation High School over the past five years, based on their interviews with influential Chicana/o leaders.
The current students at Pueblo de Los Angeles Senior High (also a LAUSD continuation school) have responded to these plays and created new material that has been woven into one collective piece – "I:Witness." This excerpt is a conversation between internationally exhibited artist/muralist Yreina Cervantez and Jaguar, her spirit animal/dream guide.
This staged reading took place on April 22, 2016 at Plaza de la Raza in East L.A. and featured students from Pueblo H.S. reading alongside professional actors Melinna Bobadilla, Cristina Frias, Jose Garcia, and Juan Parada; and sound designer/musician Noah Harmon.
