A former O'Connor High School teacher who admitted to driving drunk and killing a young woman receives probation. Jose Castaneda, 34, was driving twice the legal alcohol limit in 2008 when he slammed into Tamara Simpson's SUV. The impact sent Simpson's vehicle off a 20-foot embankment near I-10 and De Zavala, killing her.Castaneda took the stand and asked Simpson's family for forgiveness. "I know you hate me, but I'm really sorry for my actions," said Castaneda. "I did wrong. I'm a terrible person."Prosecutors pushed for prison time, asking jurors to send a strong message to the community. Simpson's mother, Callie, says Castaneda's sentence is the wrong one."Drink, drive - get your little hand slapped," said Simpson after the verdict. "It just gives everybody else that drinks and drives another reason why they can go out and do it and get a slap on the wrist."Next month, a judge will formally sentence Castaneda. As a condition of his probation, he could still receive six months in jail.Posted By: Jennifer SaucedoFollow Jennifer on Twitter: @jenniferfox29
