UW-Eau Claire accounting students provide free income tax assistance to taxpayers who cannot afford to pay for professional help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA, a special program of the Internal Revenue Service and Wisconsin Department of Revenue, provides free tax return assistance to taxpayers with adjusted gross annual incomes under $49,000. UW-Eau Claire students are available to meet with individuals on a first-come, first-served basis MondaysWednesdays, February 8 through April 15, 2010 at Western Dairyland Community Action Agency, RCU Shopko South Office, and the Chippewa Valley Technical College. All accounting majors participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program as part of their required income tax assistance course. Approximately 25% of VITA clients are non-English speaking or non-U.S. residents. VITA has been operating at UW-Eau Claire for over 20 years. To learn more, contact Dr. DArcy Becker, UWEau Claire Department of Accounting and Finance at 715.836.6028 or dbecker@uwec.edu.
