1974 NC State Univ. EE Dept. Computer Graphics Lab
3D Modeling & Animation of King Tiger Tank - a boring film by Nick England
(what can I say - back then this stuff was really hard!)
I measured a scale model and keypunched cards with the polygon/vertex coordinates. Then I interactively assembled components and created motion using BUILD software on an Adage AGT-30 graphics computer. Shaded surface display was using SCHSA software on a Varian 620 minicomputer and acustom RGB frame buffer - recorded one-frame-at-a-time onto a super-8 movie camera.
Turn dial to move 3D object. Start scan. Wait. Push camera shutter release. Repeat ad nauseum.
