Introduction to "Enheduanna: Ornament of the Sky"

I entered the film industry because I felt film was such a powerful medium and I had a strong desire to spread empowering images of women. I worked as an Assistant Editor and Editor for many years. When I discovered Enheduana, the first named author in world history, I couldn't believe I had never heard of her. I was compelled to study her and make a documentary about her to share her with as many people as possible. I now help women entrepreneurs make videos of themselves to share their important messages! She has been dubbed by ancient near eastern scholar, William Hallo, as the Shakespeare of her time. She was the High Priestess of the Moon God in the city of Ur and was considered the most holy person of her time much like the Pope of her time. She lived around 2300 bce and was the first person to write in the first person! She wrote 3 long hymns to the Goddess Inanna and a series of temple hymns that united all the temples of Sumer and Akkad into one theology to mirror her father, Sargon the Great''s attempts to unify these 2 countries into the first empire in world history.

This was a unique time in history and Enheduana was known as one of the major players and went down in history as the most famous High Priestess. This was a time when there was a slow transition between anonymity and group mind toward greater individuality, between a more Goddess based worship to God worship, between spiritual rulership to Kingship, between individual connection to the Divine to a priestly class acting as intermediary between the Divine and the people, between pre-literatcy and literacy. The Sumerians were known for inventing the wheel, writing, astronomy, money, irrigation and many other aspects of civilization.

Finally I have put her on youtube! And I'd love to hear if you've ever heard about her and how you feel learning about her!
