Art, culture, food, music, hospitality, learning & worship amidst #Norfolk’s favourite setting. One of England’s greatest cathedrals, where every visit is unique. Share yours #mycathedral.
Transcript: Jane Hedges, Dean of Norwich Cathedral I’ve been ordained now for 35 years and I’ve served in a number of different places.
Norwich Cathedral was originally a Benedictine Monastery and Benedictine Monastery’s always prided themselves on their welcome of people.
So coming here as Dean I really want to make sure that our Cathedral is here for the whole community.
Just occasionally somebody will say “Are ordinary people allowed in the Cathedral?”, “Yes, of course, everybody’s welcome here”.
As you come through the gates, you’re immediately confronted by the wonderful view. It is a very spectacular Cathedral. But also with the new facilities it’s a space that feels like there’s lots of sort of creative things going on in it.
It’s a great big space but it’s also divided into smaller spaces and there are really interesting things in every part you go to. And I feel a huge sense of privilege to be able to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings but also that sense of responsibility of wanting to make that we share that. To encourage all those good things that go on.
You can come in and just get yourself absorbed into this wonderful atmosphere and hopefully have your spirits lifted by simply being in this place that has been here for hundred’s of years.
