This video was taken just outside the San Rafael Swell reef, near the mouth of Wild Horse Canyon, Utah, on May 24, 2009, around 4 pm. This wash was dry and the sky was actually blue and sunny all day afternoon until a mere hour or two before this video was taken. Then a thunderstorm rolled in, dumped a torrent of rain and hail on us for about twenty minutes, and moved on northward. After another twenty minutes or half hour we heard a tremendous roar and the crashing sound of rolling, knocking boulders and emerged from our tent to see this. The water flowed until well into the middle of the night, though the level dropped a couple feet within an hour or two, and the man on the other side was able to cross and rejoin the rest of his party.
