A poster on display in the European Commission included several hammer and sickle symbols, most widely associated with the oppressive regime of the USSR. None of the EU institutions have claimed responsibility for the poster, and according to the Commission, it was submitted as part of a competition. The poster was subsequently removed after complaints from Lithuania, where communist symbols are banned.
