Book talk by Sheldon Krantz, Professor of Law, University of Maryland

Sheldon Krantz is a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Maryland Law School teaching courses on business crimes and professional responsibility. Prior to coming to Maryland, he was a litigation partner at DLA Piper and the Director of New Perimeter, its global pro bono affiliate. Earlier in his career, Professor Krantz began his career as a prosecutor in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the U.S. Department of Justice. Professor Krantz also served as Dean of the University of San Diego Law School of Law and, prior to that, as a Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Criminal Justice at Boston University School of Law. He is the author of numerous books and articles relating to the administration of criminal justice. Professor Krantz was named the District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2004 and received the American Bar Association Senior Lawyers' Division pro bono award in 2006. From 2006-2011, Professor Krantz was the director of New Perimeter, DLA Piper's unique affiliated nonprofit that provides pro bono services in developing and post-conflict countries. He received the National Law Journal's prestigious Champion award in 2011 for New Perimeter initiatives. Professor Krantz was consistently selected as a Super Lawyer for his work as a white collar criminal defense lawyer. His areas of focus included matters relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; federal and state regulation of health care; environmental law; money laundering and export controls; legal ethics; internal investigations; corporate compliance; and risk assessment programs. He is a former chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association. Professor Krantz earned from his B.S. and J.D. from the University of Nebraska.
